Abstract
This meeting will highlight ideas that are in Cambridge laboratories today, but which have the potential to change all our lives within 10 to 15 years. Speakers include: Dr Beatrix Schlarb-Ridley: ‘Bringing about a Green Revolution’ Beatrix will summarise the cutting-edge research carried out by the Cambridge Bioenergy Initiative, and will give an overview of how the InCrops Project can help businesses to access academic expertise for low-carbon innovation, not only for Bioenergy, but also for a whole range of sectors.
Dr Paula Buttery: ‘21st century linguistics – integration with neuroscience and impact of social/economic development’ This talk will discuss the integration of linguistics into a broad spectrum of sectors. Paula will illustrate by describing two active university research projects: the first involves the use of speech and language technology to aid analysis of neuro-imaging data, furthering our understanding of the brain; the second will cover the impact of language learning applications on mobile devices in developing countries.
