Abstract
Understanding what shapes the cold gas component of galaxies is crucial to our understanding of galaxy evolution. Not only because cold gas provides the fuel for star formation, but also because its structural and kinematic properties are affected by the resultant stellar feedback. I will present detailed analysis of isolated galaxy and cosmological simulations and discuss how the interstellar medium (and star formation) are affected by the gravitational potential of galaxies, as well as how the interstellar medium structure can be a probe for different star formation and feedback models.
