We initially introduce Kitaev’s honeycomb lattice model that supports anyonic states similar to topological insulators. Then, by exact diagonalization we demonstrate the non-Abelian statistics of the anyonic vortices and their fusion rules. At short distances these vortices interact with each other altering the topology of the energy bands of the system. For sufficiently dense vortex lattice a new phase is nucleated that supports chiral Abelian anyons.
