- đ Venue: Department of Pathology, (Tennis Court Road), Lecture Theatre
Abstract
In this talk, based on his recently published book, Dr. Pollitt will discuss the four main potential sources of decarbonisation of the electricity system: nuclear, carbon capture and storage, renewables and demand reduction. He will look at the requirements for successful policy in each case and will consider the extent to which current energy policy is likely to facilitate progress towards the UK’s ambitious objectives for decarbonisation of the electricity system. Finally, he will suggest that while the UK talks a good game in decarbonisation, the reality is one of a confused and confusing national approach to the problem, with the likelihood of finding an economically sensible path to decarbonisation being low. The talk will be followed by informal discussion with refreshments. Please register at http://cuenseminar1109.eventbrite.com/
