Abstract
This talk concerns the response of structures and concrete-like materials under high rate loading, especially impact and blast. The characteristics of the structural response are discussed in comparison with the lower dynamic response due for example to seismic excitation. The particularities in the governing failure mechanisms and the pertinent analysis/modeling requirements are highlighted. This is followed by a brief presentation of some recent modeling studies on the dynamic behaviour of concrete materials using a mesoscale approach.
Series This talk is part of the Physics and Chemistry of Solids Group series.
