The X-ray Astrophysics of the Hot and Violent Universe
- đ¤ Speaker: Prof. Andrew Fabian FRS, Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge
- đ Date & Time: Tuesday 14 October 2025, 19:00 - 20:00
- đ Venue: Wolfson Lecture Theatre, Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry
Abstract
The X-ray Sky is full of compact sources consisting of accreting black holes in the form of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) and large diffuse objects composed of hot gas at tens of millions of degrees collected in the massive gravitational potential wells of clusters of galaxies. The talk shall introduce and explain the operation of these objects and show how they interact in the process of AGN Feedback. The enormous energy release from black holes shapes the way that galaxies and clusters evolve.
