Abstract
We review the concepts of cooperative communications and networking which represent a major boost to network performance. The emphasis is not on traditional information theoretic methods and diversity utilization but, rather, on “network-level” cooperation benefits that stem from properties of service systems. In this regard, the performance index we focus on is stable throughput. We summarize the state of the art and outline some of our recent contributions.
