If you have a question about this talk, please contact Jan Saxl. Abstract: Recently there has been a lot of interest in results which say that a finite simple group is a product of M of its subgroups of certain type, where the number M is (at least up to a multiplicative constant) as small as possible. I will survey (some of) the applications of such results and formulate an ambitious general conjecture, which with M. Liebeck and A. Shalev we have proved in some (very special) cases. This talk is part of the Algebra and Representation Theory Seminar series. ## This talk is included in these lists:- Algebra and Representation Theory Seminar
