Abstract
We study the dynamics of traffic on a circular road by using a simple car following model. In case of no bottleneck the situation is well known. Especially the loss of stability for higher traffic density well understood. Introducing a bottleneck the situation becomes more complex and a completely different approach is needed. Doing so the bifurcations and the dynamics of the bottleneck case can be studied and many new interesting phenomena can be observed.
