Abstract
In this talk I will describe the foundation of the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities. UCLDH was launched in May 2010 and forms the hub of a network of DH activity linking world leading research at UCL in disciplines including engineering, computer science, the humanities and built environment with our museums, special collections and the Slade School of Fine Art. We also work with cultural heritage organisations such as libraries, archives and galleries outside academia. This talk will describe our philosophy of DH research, the institutional context for our work, how it is funded, and the activities that we undertake. I will discuss what we have learned so far, and offer some thoughts about what the future may hold for DH whether at UCL or beyond.
Claire is a Reader Digital Humanities and the acting Head of the UCL Department of Information Studies at University College London, Director of the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities and Vice-Dean for Research for the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Her current research is on the use of digital resources in the humanities; digital textual resources; reading in physical and digital environments; and the use of social networking for research and in cultural heritage. linkname
