The stability of the Maxwellian of the Boltzmann equation with a large amplitude external potential has been an important open problem. In this talk, I will present this problem with a large smooth potential in a periodic box. We use the Asano’s previous result in the interpolation framework developed by Yan Guo, and establish the well-posedness and the stability of the local Maxwellian for given external potential.

This talk is part of the Partial Differential Equations seminar series.
