Abstract
Some people want to do PhDs for some reason. Others don’t want to for other reasons. Some people may be wrong, or they may be right for the wrong reasons. In this talk, I’ll try and offer some advice on who should do a PhD, why, when, where and how it usually works, for some definition of usually.
Examples will necessarily be taken from personal experiences as an advisor, and from the field of communications systems, so relevance, accuracy and bias may all be questioned. Ref: http://matt.might.net/articles/phd-school-in-pictures/
