On the 31 May 2011, I gave a talk to the information theory group explaining what was known about the entropy of the sum of discrete random variables and giving examples for which knowing bounds on this entropy would be useful. A lot has happened since, in particular through one paper by Jog and Anantharam published on arXiv and of which a short version will be presented at ISIT 2013 . I will review what I told you in 2011 and give you a summary of the results in their ISIT paper, as well as discuss the remaining open problems that I believe are solvable within the next few years.
