Neuroscience and neuroscientists are on a roll at present with wonderful new techniques allowing the living brain to be visualised at all levels from the molecular to the systems. So much so that many neuroscientists are convinced that they are able to explain not just the brain, but mind and even consciousness. ‘You are your brain,’ says one Nobel prizewinner. But are you? Can the brain really explain the mind, or are we neuroscientists not getting a little too big for our boots?
