Abstract
GlaxoSmithKline is one of the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies. In this talk I will aim to introduce the drug development process and highlight some of the ways in which bioinformatics is applied to the drug development process in GSK . The talk will focus on several key areas of impact, starting with target identification and validation including the application of structural analysis to protein engineering, describe the role of bioinformatics in handing human variation and finishing with at role bioinformatics plays in the discovery and application of biomarkers.
