Abstract
Machine communication promises to be an enormous market that could transform the way that we live. However, the connectivity requirements of machines are radically different from those of people and current wireless technologies are not well aligned with these needs. Hence a group of key technology companies including ARM , CSR and Cable & Wireless decided to standardize a new technology termed Weightless, optimized for M2M and for operation in unlicensed and white space spectrum. This talk sets out the key design decisions and technological approach of Weightless and the progress made to date in completing the standard and deploying systems.
Series This talk is part of the Computer Laboratory Digital Technology Group (DTG) Meetings series.
