Let O_K be the ring of integers in an algebraic number field K (for instance, O_K might be Z or the Gaussian integers Z[i]). I will discuss the relationship between the arithmetic properties of O_K and the high-dimensional cohomology groups of SL_n(O_K). This is joint work with Tom Church and Benson Farb.

This talk is part of the Differential Geometry and Topology Seminar series.
