Abstract

Growing your team and employing new people can be a time-consuming and costly process. At what point do you decide that you need someone new? Is it a financial decision in response to unexpected growth or is it part of a long-term strategy? How do you determine who the next member of your team should be and what role they will fill? For example, can they grow within the role and will they fit in with your team? Will they be able to bring ideas to the company to enable it to become more successful? Perhaps you need them to wear a number of ‘hats’ initially rather than being a specialist in one role. Maybe there is not one ‘ideal’ candidate for your role so are you willing to invest in ongoing training? Choosing the right people is therefore paramount to the success of your business. And so is staying legal while you do it. Does having more staff mean having more problems? We’ll have a brief intro into the policies and procedures you are legally obliged to have in place, and those you should have in place to protect your business.

This session will draw on a variety of views on the topic of employing new people. If you’re about to employ someone new, started the interview process or just employed someone then this talk is for you – whether you’re a business owner or HR Manager. It should also be of interest perhaps to those who are looking to develop their career and perhaps looking for a new role.
