Abstract
This inaugural seminar celebrates the launch of LCM whose aim is to establish an inclusive musical community of performers and performance practices. The LCM will attract an intergenerational and interdisciplinary membership who simply shares enthusiasm for live coding and ambitions to create a democratic and collaborative approach to creative explorations in a supportive environment. Each member aims to develop fluency, confidence, skills and creativities in live coding solos, duos and other music-making ensemble performances. Our live coding explorations and performances will feature an interplay of Sonic Pi users (a programming language created by Sam Aaron) in combination with a cross-platform commitment to inclusiveness of other programming methods and sound sources.
As part of the LCM launch celebration, Shelly Knotts, a Newcastle-based composer, performer and improviser of live electronic, live-coded and network music, will share her experiences and journeys of experimental and collaborative live-coded music making. The seminar will include discussion articulating some shared feminist aims of live coding. This will be followed by our own explorations into live coding performance. The session will end with plans for future meeting dinner at Bella Italia.
