Abstract
Dame Carol is an Expert Adviser to the Department of Health, the Chair of Nuffield Trust, the leading independent advisory body for healthcare policy in the UK, and the Principal of Newnham College. Originally a consultant rheumatologist, she was President of the Royal College of Physicians and Director of the Royal Free Hospital, where she established an internationally renowned centre for research and treatment of connective tissue diseases. Dame Carol is a champion of women in science and was named one of the 100 most powerful women in the UK.
She will discuss her landmark paper for the Department of Work and Pensions, tackling the challenges of poor health on employment and proposing reform to government policy on fitness to work. Dame Carol will also explore the future outlook for the NHS .
Everyone is welcome. Free for members, ÂŖ2 on the door for non-members. Followed by refreshments (that means smoothies, cheese and grapes!).
