From Bench to Books: writing science books for children
- š¤ Speaker: Tiffany Taylor
- š Date & Time: Friday 27 February 2015, 18:15 - 19:15
- š Venue: Old Combination Room (OCR), Wolfson College
Abstract
Tiffany leads a double life. During the day she uses experimental evolution to investigate genome evolution, bacterial motility and cancer metastasis. But by night, she writes science stories for children.
Tiffany will talk about her experiences of taking the leap into outreach, whilst still busy in the lab, and describe the lessons learnt along the way from her first small, self-published book āLittle Changesā, to her larger, collaborative, Kickstarter funded project āGreat Adaptationsā. She will reveal how it has benefitted her as a researcher and opened new doors ā and hopefully encourage you all to write the book in you.
āLittle Changesā can be viewed here, www.rinkidinks.co.uk, and the story behind āGreat Adaptationsā can be seen here,https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/breadpiginc/great-adaptations-a-childrens-book-about-evolution.
