If you have a question about this talk, please contact Jack Thorne.

I’ll describe the notion of a “p-adic L-function”, and explain some reasons why one might care about these objects, with emphasis on examples coming from Dirichlet characters and elliptic curves. I’ll also discuss some new results on the p-adic L-functions associated with modular forms on GL2 and beyond.

This talk is part of the Number Theory Seminar series.
