Abstract
On Wednesday 7 October, Michael Pollitt (Professor of Business Economics Director of Studies in Management and Economics) will give his inaugural lecture at the Cambridge Judge Business School.
IN SEARCH OF ‘GOOD’ ENERGY POLICY THE SOCIAL LIMITS TO TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS TO ENERGY AND CLIMATE PROBLEMS
Energy policy in every country aims to deliver secure, affordable and clean energy to power the economy. However simultaneously achieving these three goals is difficult and contentious and there are wide variations between countries in their approach to policy.
Michael will explore some of the key social aspects to the promotion of ‘good’ energy policy. These include the use of evidence and prediction; public trust, understanding, attitudes and beliefs; institutional design and collective action; the varying concepts of what is ‘good’ and ‘just’; the role of the state vs private actors; vested interests and legacy investments; and the need for new business models.
