- đ Venue: Darwin Room, The Pitt Building, Trumpington Street
Abstract

The SynBio Fund will support innovative, open and interdisciplinary projects relevant to Synthetic Biology over 2015-16 to deliver shared resources for the synthetic biology community. Up to nine 6-month projects per year will receive ÂŖ4k each, with an additional ÂŖ1k awarded on completion for follow-on and outreach. The second round of applications closes on 23 November 2015.
The aim of the fund is to promote the development of Synthetic Biology as an interdisciplinary field at the University of Cambridge – to facilitate exchange between the biological and physical sciences, engineering and humanities, and the development of open technologies and responsible innovation in the context of Synthetic Biology.
Previously the fund has supported sequencing and characterisation of reporter genes, useful DNA parts, genetic tools, open source microscopes and other hardware, a community biolab project, open source modelling software and more. We can also support policy papers, educational resources, outreach activities, creative design projects and more – just check the website or contact jcm80@cam.ac.uk for more details.
This meeting will provide:
- An overview of the fund and eligibility criteria
- Examples of previous successful projects
- Opportunities to pitch your ideas, find collaborators and get feedback from the fund coordinators.
- Networking opportunities over light refreshments.
If you would like to propose a pitch, would like comment on your idea or are seeking collaborators in the meantime you can email the Synthetic Biology SRI Coordinator Jenny Molloy on jcm80@cam.ac.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
This event is followed by Cafe Synthetique at the Panton Arms with informal talks, more pitches and further opportunities to network with the Cambridge synthetic biology community (RSVP Here).
Series This talk is part of the Engineering Biology Interdisciplinary Research Centre series.
