Abstract
As chemical engineers, many of us will end up working in high hazard industries where safety is a critical part of our role and the potential consequences of failing to manage risks can be catastrophic. Therefore, it is important for chemical engineers to understand the ways to manage these risks, both in the more traditional chemical engineering ‘process safety’ environment and more broadly so that safety becomes an integral part of how we work. This talk will look more deeply at the safety risks we may encounter, the reasons we manage safety andhow we can go about it across a range of industries. Bio: Katie Coull is currently a manager in Arthur D. Little’s Risk Practice in Cambridge. She joined the firm in October 2010 as a fresh graduate from a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at this Department. Since joining Arthur D. Little, she has gained experience in managing safety risk across a variety of industries and functions on projects both in the UK and abroad.
