Abstract
The common observation of power laws in all aspects of plasticity may have its origin in the self-organised-criticality of the dislocation structures produced by deformation. It is possible, using the model of the tilted ellipsoidal slip band, to explain the observed exponents, and in some cases, to predict the constant in the relationship and to compare it with experiment.
