Human Evolutionary Studies Discussion Group (HESDG): The evolution of human communication: signalling without words

Across all human evolutionary studies there has always been a strong interest in the origins and evolution of language. In tackling this issue, there are many overlapping elements – language as meaning, language as structure, language as thought, language as communication, speech, other means of communication, and so on. We thought we would take as or central focus the broad idea of signalling, and to look at how human signalling may have evolved in general terms, and in particular independent of the difficulties of studying language itself.

This talk is part of the Cambridge Language Sciences series.
