Abstract
Public lecture and book presentation.
Daniel Beer is Senior Lecturer in Modern European History at Royal Holloway, University of London. He works on nineteenth and early twentieth century Russian cultural and intellectual history and has particular interests in the history of crime and punishment and of political violence. He is the author of Renovating Russia: The Human Sciences and the Fate of Liberal Modernity, 1880-1930 (Cornell University Press: 2008) and The House of the Dead: Siberian Exile Under the Tsars (Allen Lane: 2016).
