Abstract
Technology roadmapping is one of the most widely used planning tools that support the development, communication and implementation of technology and business strategy. It provides a mechanism to help forecast technology futures and determine core technologies, enabling the anticipation of risks in acquiring them. Accordingly, it has been increasingly applied within industry and has received considerable attention from both academics and practitioners. Despite the popularity of technology roadmapping, organisations are still facing various challenges in using their technology roadmaps effectively. In this seminar, some of the efforts to tackle such challenges and to move towards more advanced roadmapping processes are introduced for the era of roadmap 2.0. Specifically, the following topics will be discussed: 1) developing a technology-driven roadmapping as a strategic tool for identifying new business opportunities based on emerging technologies; 2) incorporating big data analysis into roadmapping process; 3) validating roadmapping results; 4) assessing roadmapping maturity level to provide guidelines for improvement; 5) dealing with complex relationships among roadmap elements; and 6) involving users directly during roadmapping processes. In the seminar, the insights gained from these attempts will be shared together with future research possibilities.
