Orbit counting for automorphisms of finite combinatorial rank

Abstract
There is a well-known analogy between closed orbits in certain dynamical systems and prime numbers. I will give a brief survey of this, and then describe some recent work on a class of dynamical systems exhibiting extremely slow orbit growth properties associated with a finite combinatorial rank.
