DESCRIPTION:Gestational diabetes (GDM) is an established risk indicator fo
 r type 2 diabetes in mothers that provides a window of opportunity for dia
 betes prevention. We will discuss its associations with diabetes\, hyperte
 nsion\, and cardiovascular disease\, both alone and in combination with ge
 stational hypertension. We will review recent studies demonstrating its as
 sociation with diabetes in fathers and diabetes in offspring. We will exam
 ine recent intervention studies in family-based diabetes prevention in the
  context of a maternal GDM history
