DESCRIPTION:Our beliefs shape our identity\, influence how we interpret th
e world and steer our relationships. They are\, more than anything else\,
what make us human.\n\nHow our beliefs are born\, developed and reinforced
depends upon a multitude of factors such as our environment\, experiences
and genetics. But what role does our brain play? \n\nWhilst philosophers
have speculated about how the brain forms beliefs since the 17th century\,
recent advances in technology have opened up the possibility to answer in
teresting questions such as:\n\nWhich regions of the brain are involved in
belief? Can differences in brain structure and function make some people
more prone to believe in God? Or more likely to vote labour or conservativ
e? Finally\, do we have control of what we believe and why\, or does our b
rain make the decisions for us?\n\nJoin us for an evening of talks followe
d by a panel discussion to discuss the neural basis for religious and poli
tical belief! We have four fantastic speakers: \n\nRevd Prof. Alasdair Col
es\, 'God and the Brain'\n\nDr Joseph Tennant\, 'Mystical Experience in Ep
ilepsy: Contrasting Clinical Reports with Patient Experience'\n\nDr Harvey
McMahon FRS\, 'Neuroscience and Freewill'\n\nDr Lee de Wit\, 'How does yo
ur biology shape your politics?' \n\nRefreshments will be provided after t
he discussion.\n\nREGISTER HERE : For organisational purposes\, please reg
