DESCRIPTION:The Arrol Adam Lectures were launched this academic year compr
 ising a series of six lectures on different aspects of "Risk"\, organised 
 by College President\, Dr Michael Potter. The free lectures are aimed at a
  general audience and are open to the public as well as College members.\n
 \nThe sixth lecture will take place on Thursday 6th March at 6pm in the Co
 llege auditorium and is entitled "The risk of terrorism".\n\nThe speaker i
 s Sir Richard Dearlove\, former Head of the Secret Intelligence Service.\n
 \nSir Richard Dearlove served as Chief (known as ‘C’) of the Secret In
 telligence Service (SIS) from August 1999 until his retirement in July 200
 4.  For the preceding five years he was Director of Operations and\, from 
 1998\, Assistant Chief.  As Director of Finance\, Administration and Perso
 nnel he also oversaw the move of SIS into its Headquarter Building at Vaux
 hall Cross in 1994.  He is a career intelligence officer of thirty-eight y
 ears standing and has served in Nairobi\, Prague\, Paris\, Geneva and Wash
 ington as well as in a number of key London-based posts.\n\nSir Richard to
 ok up the Mastership of Pembroke College Cambridge on 1 October 2004. He i
 s also a trustee of Kent School\, Connecticut\,  which he attended as an E
 SU exchange student in 1962/63\, Honorary Fellow of Queens’ College Camb
 ridge\, a member of the International Advisory Board of AIG\, senior Advis
 er to the Monitor Group and Chairman of Ascot Underwriting and Chairman of
  the Trustees of The Cambridge Union Society.\n\nThe management of risk ha
 s played an important part in Sir Richard’s professional life\, both as 
 an intelligence officer and more recently through his involvement in the b
 usiness of insurance.
