DESCRIPTION:Rapid depletion of fossil resources and environmental issues a
ssociated with their extraction and use demand the development of material
s and processes to derive energy and chemicals from sustainable resources
in an environmentally benign way. Biomass and water are potential renewabl
e energy resources\, which are abundantly available and can be utilized to
derive fuels\, chemicals and materials. Our research group focuses on the
designing of heterogeneous catalysts for biomass conversion\, water split
ting and environmental catalysis (reduction of NOx and CO2).\n\nShort bio.
of Dr Zaheer:\n\nDr Zaheer is a Charles-Wallace Visiting Fellow in the De
partment of Chemistry. He has been working as an Assistant Professor of Ch
emistry at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) since January 2
 014. Dr. Zaheer teaches Analytical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry at th
e SBA School of Science and Engineering. His research interests center on
the designing of catalysts for biomass conversion\, water electrolysis\, m
ethane oxidation and reduction of NOx/CO2. Particulate matter\, its chemic
al composition and source apportionment is the latest addition to his rese
 arch interests.
