DESCRIPTION:We propose a consistency test of general relativity on cosmolo
 gical scales. This test enables us to distinguish between two possibilitie
 s to explain the late time accelerated expansion of the universe\, that is
 \, dark energy models based on general relativity and modified gravity mod
 els without dark energy. We propose a way to perform this test using futur
 e observations.
