DESCRIPTION:The opening up of the gravitational wave window is now enablin
g us to ‘listen’ to the vibrations in the space-time continuum caused
by movements of mass.\nThis novel information channel gives access to hith
erto completely unseen events within the Universe and\, when combined with
electromagnetic observations\, adds greatly to the understanding of other
s.\nThe prospect of being able to ‘listen’ from a space-borne platform
\, such as LISA\, will extend the gravitational wave spectrum into a parti
cularly rich frequency range.\n\nThe route to LISA\, via LISA Pathfinder\,
will be discussed\, together with a summary of the rich low-frequency gra
vitational wave spectrum.\n\nTickets are £2 or free for members. Annual m
embership (£7) and life membership (£12) can also be purchased at the ev
ent - please bring cash.\n\nThe talk will be followed by refreshments outs
ide the lecture theatre.\n\nThe talk will be at the usual location of Wolf
son lecture theatre in the Department of Chemistry. The entrance is the op
posite side of the building to Bristol-Myers-Squibb Lecture theatre and is
opposite the car park- shown by the red arrow on the map. "https://map.ca
