DESCRIPTION:The genetic epidemiology of refractive error\n\nSpeaker: Dr To
by Andrew\n\nAffiliation: Department of Epidemiology & Public Health\, Imp
 erial College\, London\nDate: 9th Apr 2008 Time: 14:00:00\nVenue: M203\nHo
st: N Soranzo\nAbstract:\nRefractive error is a common quantitative trait
that is easily measured and highly heritable\, making it an ideal conditio
n to study in an unselected\, population-based set of sibling pairs\, whic
h is available using the St.Thomas' UK Adult Volunteer Twin Registry. The
prevalence of myopia is rising rapidly\, and is associated with significan
t morbidity in those highly-affected. In this talk\, I will present a brie
f overview on the genetic epidemiology of common myopia\, our linkage stud
y work and the results from a detailed association mapping study of 3q26 f
ollowing replicated linkage to this region. \n
