DESCRIPTION:I will discuss the problem of subtraction of infrared singular
 ities for\nscattering amplitudes and cross sections relevant for collider 
 phenomenology.\nIn particular\, I will focus on the relation between the f
 actorisation of soft and \ncollinear poles in fixed-angle scattering ampli
 tudes and the construction\nof local counterterms for singular contributio
 ns to real radiation. This \napproach leads to general definitions of soft
  and collinear counterterms\nto all orders in perturbation theory\, and su
 ggests promising simplifications\nfor the construction of subtraction algo
