 bmissions/submission_bartneck_0.pdf\n\nOriginal abstract:\nThe human-compu
ter interaction community is an umbrella for many disciplines. Conflicts o
ccur from time to time\, in particular between scientists and designers. T
his article compares the quality criteria used in design with those used i
n science\, in order to gain insight into what design can contribute to th
e development of science. From the scientific perspective\, the weakest po
int of design knowledge is its limited generalizability.\n\nRubric for the
reading group: Everyone attending is expected to read the paper in advanc
 e. Please bring a copy with you\, preferably annotated with interesting re
flections. The format of discussion will be a brief invited introduction/c

 nformal mixing.
