DESCRIPTION:This will be a work-in-progress talk on something that I've be
en doing on the side for some time now. The problem is as follows (and I i
magine that many of you have seen this before).\n\n<blockquote>\nA (3x3x3)
cube of cheese can be dissected into unit cubes with 6 cuts--by making 2
planar cuts along each dimension. Can you do it in _fewer_ cuts if you are
allowed to rearrange and stack the remaining components before making the
next cut?\n</blockquote>\n\nI'll talk about the ways in which we can gene
ralize this problem and present some results\, suprises and open problems.
