DESCRIPTION:The origin of life is among the greatest unsolved mysteries in
  science. Our discoveries have provided clues to how primordial chemistry 
 sparked the emergence of fundamental biomolecules\, and how these biomolec
 ules assembled to form the first cells. This knowledge can then be turned 
 toward the heavens\, revealing where we should look for alien life.\n\nOur
  first speaker\, Paul Rimmer\, will present\n\n•       a chemical networ
 k leading from simple molecules and ultraviolet light to life’s building
  blocks\,\n\n•       delineate an ‘abiogenesis zone’\, outside of wh
 ich prebiotic photochemistry cannot take place\, and\n\n•       a plausi
 ble geochemical scenario where the supply of molecules needed for the preb
 iotic photochemistry would be abundant.\n\nOur second speaker\, Claudia Bo
 nfio\, will discuss about\n\n•       model prebiotic redox-active iron-s
 ulfur clusters and their role in early metabolism\, non-enzymatic prebioti
 c RNA replication and its compatibility with model primordial cells.\n\n
