DESCRIPTION: Simplicial volume was first introduced by Gromov
to study the minimal volume of manifolds. Since th
en it has emerged as an active research field with
a wide range of applications. \n\nIn dimensions t
wo and three\, the set of possible values of simpl
icial volume may be fully computed using geometriz
ation\, but is hardly understood in higher dimensi
ons. In joint work with Clara Löh (University of R
egensburg)\, we show that the set of simplicial vo
lumes in higher dimensions is dense in the non-neg
ative reals. \nI will also discuss how the exact s
et of simplicial volumes in dimension four or high
er may look like.
