DESCRIPTION:This presentation will give a background to the KTN and the se
 rvices provided in connecting people\, and in signposting through the comp
 lex field on innovation in UK and global healthcare.  Two other important 
 fields are access to finance and the wealth of public funding schemes avai
 lable to support innovation. In addition\, considerable support is given t
 o innovation in many exciting areas of research that have been stimulated 
 with the support of this KTN. These include\; developments of new generati
 on medical/biomaterials\, medical devices and implants\, new procedures in
  regenerative medicine and cell-based therapies\, new devices for remote s
 ensing\, minimally invasive surgery\, telemedicine and assisted living and
  applications of nanotechnology in medicine. Examples of some of the KTN i
 nitiated research projects\, particularly those funded by the EPSRC alloca
 ted CASE Awards and TSB funded KTP schemes will be given. This presentatio
 n will also describe how the HT KTN has been working with research council
 s\, particularly EPSRC\, the Technology Strategy Board\, the Department of
  Health and the NHS and other stakeholders to bring together many talented
  academics\, clinicians and healthcare industry inventors to stimulate and
  accelerate new innovations.
