DESCRIPTION:Motivated by more fundamental theories of gravity
such as string theory\, in recent years there has
been a growing interesting in solving the Einstein
equations numerically beyond the traditional astr
ophysical set up. For instance in spacetime dimens
ions higher than the four that we have observed\,
or in exotic spaces such as anti-de Sitter spaces.
In this talk I will give an overview of the chall
enges that are often encountered when solving the
Einstein equations in these new settings. In the s
econd part of the talk I will provide some example
s\, such as the dynamics of unstable black holes i
n higher dimensions and gravitational collapse in
anti-de Sitter spaces.
