DESCRIPTION:Before colonialism Pacific people didn’t gamble\, but now th
 ey have taken to it in a big way. My research investigates this transforma
 tion and what it tells us about how non-capitalist economies work\, how ca
 pitalism takes hold\, and how economic ideas can be transformed through tr
 ansmission. My talk will describe how gambling took off and what it looks 
 like today.
