DESCRIPTION:We have developed a number of programs for controlling WinBUGS
from within Stata and for processing the output from an MCMC analysis. Th
ese programs will be demonstrated and applied to the meta-analysis of gene
tic association studies. We have advocated an approach that parameterizes
such a meta-analysis in terms of allele frequency\, departure from Hardy-W
einberg equilibrium\, genetic effect size and genetic model and which allo
ws fixed or random effects on all parameters and adjustment for covariates
(JRSS C 2008\;57:103-116). These models will be fitted to some typical me
ta-analyses using our Stata programs. The talk will finish will a few rema
rks on the advantages of a model-based approach to meta-analysis.
