DESCRIPTION:Every 2 minutes somewhere in the world a woman dies of cervica
 l cancer - a cancer caused by infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV
 )\, and is a preventable disease. Currently\, there are 3 prophylactic vir
 us like particle (VLP) vaccines being developed\, using sophisticated reco
 mbinant molecular techniques and protein expression. In this talk\, Profes
 sor Dame Margaret Stanley shares her work on the human papillomavirus and 
 the current vaccination schemes for HPV. She is currently an Emeritus Prof
 essor of Epithelial Biology in the Department of Pathology\, Cambridge. Sh
 e also serves as the Vice President of the International Papillomavirus So
 ciety (IPVS) and is very active in advocating for HPV vaccination. In 2010
 \, Professor Stanley was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ameri
 can Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ASCCP) for her contribu
 tions to cervical cancer and cervical precancers research.
