DESCRIPTION:Games have been used for over 50 years as an environment to de
velop and test new AI techniques. As computers become better than humans a
t an increasing number of games\, we need more challenging problems to dri
ve the field forwards and discover better approaches for solving real-worl
d tasks. This talk will look at the properties of games which make them di
fficult for computers\, using Arimaa as an example. I will also explain a
couple of the techniques used by SHARP\, a very strong Arimaa engine\, to
overcome some of the problems exclusive to Arimaa.
