DESCRIPTION:Using a semi-discrete analog of the Unified Transform  Method 
 of Fokas\, we explore the possibility of devising finite-difference  schem
 es that take boundary conditions into account properly. This is done by  c
 ombining the exact solution for the linear problem with the solution of th
 e  nonlinear problem in a split-step approach. In this talk\, I will discu
 ss the  first step of this project\, where the solution of the linear prob
