DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Bahá'í community has organised a series of tal
ks and discussions on several core principles and teachings of the Bahá'
í Faith\, entitled "Principles for a Better World".\n\nTalks will take pl
ace on Wednesdays from 8-9:30pm from mid-January to mid-April. All talks a
re free and open to all\, and light refreshments will be served.\n\nThe ti
tle of this talk is * "Two wings of a bird: Equality of men and women" *.\
n\nFor most of history\, women have been subjugated to a lesser status tha
n men. Although this is gradually starting to change\, much progress still
needs to be made. According to the Bahá'í teachings\, it is not enough
simply to give women all the same benefits currently afforded to men. Rath
er\, both men and women need to advance together. The analogy used in the
Bahá'í Writings is that of a bird: _ "The world of humanity has two wing
s — one is women and the other men. Not until both wings are equally dev
eloped can the bird fly. Should one wing remain weak\, flight is impossibl
 e. Not until the world of women becomes equal to the world of men in the a
cquisition of virtues and perfections\, can success and prosperity be atta
ined as they ought to be." _ In this talk\, we will explore this important
principle and its implications for society and our lives.\n\n_ "The well-
being of mankind\, its peace and security\, are unattainable unless and un
til its unity is firmly established." _
